LWLC Technical Model Guide
To fully express your strength and power in Olympic Weightlifting you need to have great technique. Even those watching weightlifting for the first time can tell when great technique is on show; the lift is powerful, smooth, flowing, balanced, and without need for correction. And whilst we can all acknowledge when we see great technique, we often struggle to describe exactly what makes it great and how it was achieved.
This is where a technical model comes in! Using a technical model for Olympic Weightlifting provides us with a model for what we see as the most ideal way to progress through each lift. We can break a technical model down into key positions or events for each lift and identify where balance, foot pressure, segment orientation, and barbell location needs to be to be successful. Ultimately highlighting the what and the how behind technique in a way where we can take observed positions and principals and aim to replicate within our own lifting.
In this guide, we look at what we at Liverpool Weightlifting value in Olympic Weightlifting technique. Descriptions have been given for key positions in the snatch, clean, and jerk along side notes on what is important in the movement between points.
We hope this guide improves your understanding of the snatch, clean and jerk, and helps you level up your Olympic Weightlifting technique!
