Welcome to LJMU Weightlifting Club!

Our club focuses on the Olympic-style of weightlifting, meaning that members will be taught and expected to train the snatch and the clean and jerk. We have founded this club in order to establish an LJMU weightlifting team, and our goal is to compete in the university championships at the end of the academic year. We are providing the opportunity for people new to the sport to learn and train weightlifting in a fun, safe environment using the best facilities. As well as providing the opportunity for more experienced weightlifters to further advance their training by utilising the guidance of excellent coaches.

As a beginner to Olympic weightlifting you will be taught the fundamentals of lifting by British Weightlifting certified coaches in our exclusive gym facilities. Coaches will also assist experienced weightlifters to further advance their training. Our club will offer opportunities to compete as part of a team, if this is your goal as a weightlifter. However, weightlifting is brilliant for you even outside of competing, not only is it one of the best ways to get in shape but it will also improve your mental well-being and general fitness.

Weightlifting can teach you self-discipline and focus, improve your ability to motivate yourself and others, while also building your self-confidence individually and as a team member and much more. Our club is open for all abilities and genders. We are looking for committed, hardworking members who share our passion for the barbell, or are simply keen to learn a new sport. If you wish to become an all-round stronger person and experience the true camaraderie of a competitive team sport, this society is perfect for you.
